That"s about the size of it, a legend. There is no mention of domestic cats in the entire Bible. ( wild species such as Leopards and Lions, yes) . The story was written sometime in the fifties as a a juvenile Christmas tale. The cat, who resided in the stable, is unnamed in the story. The story suggests that the M-like markings on the forehead of tabby cats is indicative of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is one of those generally harmless myth-like legends that one can take or leave with a grain of salt. Even if it were true the laws of genetics require it would have only affected that One cat and not the sub-species of felis domesticus. so it goes. By itself, this is mild compared to the ( legend) of talking animals in the crib, and some others. harmless but not canonical.
The domestic cat occurs no where in Scripture. the juvenile story- The Christ Child and the Stable cat- is an unsupported legend. the M- marking, if true, would have only effefected that particular cat.
Apart from animals not found in the middle East ( or Holy land) There is no mention of the domestic cat in the bible. The Christ Child and the Stable Cat is a pious fable.
While wild felines such as Leopards and Lions abound. the word Cat and the domestic feline implied is nowhere to be found in the Holy Writ. The popular legend of the Christ Child and the stable cat is after all, a pious myth=allegdly explaining why Tabby Cats have (M) markings (for St.Mary) on their foreheads. some leopards and white tigers have these too. no connection.
