What does socially confined mean?

To be socially confined means to be seperated from everyday social activity as a person or as a group. This seperation, or confinement, can have numerous causes. A person or group can be socially confined psychologically, which means that this person is not able to act in a socially accepted way. Ofcourse there are various gradations in this abnormal behaviour, ranging from the portrayal of extremely annoying or rude behaviour, up untill being severely psychologically ill. A person or group can also be socially confined literally. For example, back in history people with contagious illnesses could get pressured into living in social confinement (f.e. lepracy or the plague). Nowadays, social confinement occurs through many causes, such as religion (f.e. the Amish), snobism (f.e. the stadium skybox), bullying (f.e. the kid that always sits alone during lunch) and many more.
