Libertarians believe in a strong support of individual civil liberties, private property and the free market economy with little government intervention. They favor the least amount of government interference. They believe the individual should be left alone to do as he/she wishes, as long as there is no harm to any other person or group. They are against any governmental restriction and regulation that is not necessary for the public health or safety.

The Libertarian Party is a political party founded on the idea of liberty; sort of like the original idea of America. The primary rule for all Libertarians is the Non-Aggression Principle, or "NAP". In order to join the Libertarian Party, you must swear to agree to the Non-Aggression Principle.

At it's core, the NAP is much the same as the "Golden Rule"; "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." Thomas Jefferson describes the NAP this way: "Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others." and "No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another, and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him." You have no right to force any person to do anything, and they have no right to force you to do anything. Basically, you cannot INITIATE force, although a Libertarian is free to defend himself if someone else starts it.

Libertarianism states that governments are a necessary evil, and that the government governs best that governs LEAST.
