Erosion will most likely wear it any, but that probably won't happen for years. But still, the Great Sphinx is always going to wear away and sooner or later, the Great Sphinx will be a stump.
It is believed that Khafre's workers shaped the stone into the lion and gave it their king's face over 4,500 years ago. See National Geographic link for Egypt Unwrapped - Secrets of the Sphinx - Khufu's son had the the sphinx carved to honour his father.
When Napoleon soldiers from France was drunk they shot the Sphinx nose so constantly that it finally fell off the Sphinx,Which made a great but untrue fable. The first recorded picture of the Great Sphinx was painted hundreds of years before Napoleon's Army arrived in Egypt. It had no nose then so it was not an effort by the French to destroy a historical monument. The most likely reason was not man made, but a minute natural fissure that expanded over the centuries..
the Sphinx is made out of which the Sphinx was made out of hard and soft limestone. Over the years, Ancient Egyptians added more and more stone to the fore paws of the Sphinx, therefore it is also made out of stone, too.
The Sphinx of Giza is a symbol that has represented the essence of Egypt for thousands of years. Even with all of the pictures that we see of the Sphinx, nothing can really prepare you for the time that you finally see the Sphinx with your own eyes. Here's a look at the Sphinx that will give you a hint of what you can expect to see if you visit Egypt.

The erosion of the Sphinx has been caused by thousands of years of it being battered by sand in strong winds, gradually weathering and wearing it down.Since the industrial revolution, the Sphinx is also being affected by acid rain and pollution, which is slightly speeding up the erosion. If you are asking about the nose of the Sphinx, which is missing, that was not eroded. The Sphinx does not have a nose because Napoleon, when he went through Egypt, ordered his men to use the nose of the Sphinx as target practice.
There has been even more pollution in the last fifty years
Considerable decay and damage due to age, pollution, weather etc. See the link below.
More recently, a new theory places the statue’s origins back, to around 9,000 years ago. The extensive erosion of the limestone near the top of the Great Sphinx, arguing that the last time the region experienced enough rainfall in the region to cause this type of erosion on limestone was 7000 B.C. Other so called experts have desperately tried to hang on to the idea its only 4000 years old without any real evidence. But archeologists are very well known for not appreciating being proved to be in error
most likely that if the air pollution is not stoped the world will be a dark place in about 1oo years or so
There is no known date for when the Egyptian Sphinx was made, because it was built over a very long period of time. However Historians believe it was made thousands of years ago most likely in the 4th Dynasty. :)
Despite current and recent teachings about the Sphinx and even the pyramids, it's not 100% certain that the pharaohs built either of them. Recently, MULTIPLE geologists have discovered water erosion on the Sphinx that resulted from thousands of years of rain fall. Now, as we know, it hasn't rained in the Nile Valley since approximately 7000 B.C. And although all these geologists have seen, reviewed and agreed that water erosion IS in FACT on the Sphinx, most archaeologists refuse to consider that as a possibility, as it would mean that all we've been teaching has been wrong. However, its been believed that the Sphinx was there to guard the pyramids, depending on which text you read. Check out John Anthony West and Graham Hancock's work.
erosion will most likely occur and some plants can die and animals can die
about 4500 years ago.
No, it is estimated that the sphinx was built nearly two thousand years before Cleopatra was born.
Some people may believe that the sphinx is 10,000 years old (Again - who knows?)
