Depleting wooded areas means fewer habitats for forest organisms. Soil erosion, leading to less support for birds and small game.
Cutting down trees does have a down side. Some disadvantages would be pushing away wildlife. We are losing out on air quality control. Destroying possible food source or shelter are also not good things.
The rain forest is a unique ecosystem. It is home to many species that are not found elsewhere, and if its trees were cut down, many would die and may become extinct, including ones we have never even discovered. Many scientists suspect that new medicines can be found in the rain forests, maybe even the cure for cancer.
