Love is both a universal concept and a subjective concept. It is expressed differently in countries other than the United States. For example, in China, arranged marriages are still taking place. Love is more tending to the needs of the spouse and learning to love the person you are destined to marry rather than first finding love, then the spouse. What "love" actually is will vary depending on the person, but the United States and the culture that I have grown up with here, is more liberal than other countries in the world, such as India. Because of that, the way that people express their love will be different than buying flowers and gifts, a common symbol of love here in the United States.
