∙ 14y agoNot sure, but this is a start. MPEG4 is a audio file andvideo file. M4a is almost the same thing but no video files in it. Xxx.m4a audio file does not come for the itunes store because their music is protected (keeping people from making more then one copy). The M4a is not protected and might have been copied from your CD recorder or by another person. I think xxxx.m4b songs are protected when the buyer purchases it so they can not keep reproducing a song over and over to resell for personal gain.
Keep looking for more information on answers.com, because I repeated anther persons information, "not word for word" but could not find it when I went back for it. Anyway they do a better job and have more information on the subject.
