As I understand it, Poke-oke is a Japanese concept used in manufacturing (often automotive industy) which involves setting up systems in such a way that a mistake becomes impossible to make. For example... Say you have a machining robot that punches 3 different types/ sizes of rivet into a steel plate for some reason. The 3 different rivets are placed in three different trays each with an automatically opening cover over them. The robot arm will reach down to pick up a rivet from one tray, and punch it into the steel and then pick up a rivet from a different tray and punch that one into the steel, and so on... If the robot had a bug in the program, it might pick up the wrong rivet at the wrong time. A poke-oke solution may be to time the automatic opening of the tray covers so that the rivets underneath are only available at the correct time. That way when the robot goes to the wrong tray it physically cannot pick up the wrong part, and so cannot cause a faulty component to be produced. When the machine realises there's a problem, the production line stops, and alarms sound so an operator can go in, find the problem and fix it so it doesn't happen again. Poke-oke is a fantastic idea, which can be used many aspects of life. The overflow draining system in a bath is a Poke-oke concept too. It eliminates the possibility of flooding when a human leaves the tap open and forgets about it.
