What is meant by 'suicide attempt'?
well it is when they try to kill them selfs, and fail/are stopped.
can be they tried an action (slitting wrists, shooting them selfs etc.) but survived it, or that they were stopped at the last minute.
The attempt of taking someones life is illegal. Suicide is such an attempt even if it's your own life you are trying to take. Therefore the attempt for suicide is illegal. That is the case with a successful murder as well. Since is illegal to murder, and suicide is murdering yourself, suicide is illegal.
It is not against the law to attempt suicide in the UK. Suicide and attempted suicide was a crime in England and Wales until 1961. Attempted suicide was (equivalent to) a misdemeanor but suicide was punished by the loss of the dead person's estate. The Church of England may still deny ordinary burial rites to certain suicide victims. However, please don't attempt suicide.
People who attempt suicide usually make a statement beforehand; this is called a "suicide note". "Committing" suicide is completing the act successfully; only an attempt may fail. If you tried to kill yourself and failed, count yourself lucky and GET HELP; make any related statements to a therapist or counselor.
Some do, some don't. Most who attempt suicide try to give someone a signal that something isn't right with them and that they want to end their life. The majority people don't want to commit suicide they just want a better life, one they enjoy and can tolerate. If you think someone is going to harm themselves or attempt suicide, get them help.
