The very first revelation of Islam is the first verse of Surah Al-Iqra. Iqra means to recite or read. the surah's first verse says: 1.Read!In the name of your Lord .
The Surah says that Allah is the first teacher of man.
It is so as Allah gave Hazrat Adam-the first man and Prophet the knowledge about the names of different things that farishtay-angels did not know. so by giving humans the knowledge, Allah made us the best of creations! And especially the mention of acquiring knowledge in the very first verse of Holy Quran highlights the great significance of acquiring knowledge in Islam. Further Allah commands us to meditate over this world so we know that how Supreme in power He is.
The Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) also said that it is obligatory on every man and woman to acquire knowledge and also commanded Muslims to acquire knowledge even if they had to go to China to acquire it.
So Islam has stressed on acquiring knowledge both about religion and also about the world !!
