LDL (low-density-lipoproteins)- transport cholesterol to body cells where they are used in various ways. It is also called the bad cholesterol. HDL (high-density-lipoproteins)- transport cholesterol from the tissue cells (or arteries) to the liver for disposal in bile.

For this purpose it is called the good cholesterol.

HDL: High Density lipoproteins ( some people refer to it as good cholesterol) There are the packages of cholesterol and how it is transported through the body. LDL increases when diet has an increase in fat (especially saturated fat) LDL: Low Density Lipoproteins ( higher risk of CVD): its primary function is to repair tissue damaged because of stress.

Typically, there are three cholesterol levels reported in a cholesterol blood test: total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and HDL cholesterol. LDL and HDL cholesterol are measured and discussed as if they are two different types of cholesterol. In fact, that is a bit of a misnomer as there's truly only one waxy substance called cholesterol. The reason two different ‘types’ of cholesterol are measured relates to the two very different types of protein that ‘carry’ the cholesterol in the blood. Some cholesterol travels through the blood attached to Low-Density Lipoproteins (LDLs) while some travels as part of High-Density Lipoproteins (HDLs). Thus, total cholesterol is broken out and discussed as either LDL or HDL cholesterol.
HDL cholesterol is often called "good" cholesterol because it delivers cholesterol to the liver, which removes it from the body. LDL cholesterol is often referred to as "bad" cholesterol because too much LDL cholesterol can cause plaque to build on the artery walls. The more LDL cholesterol there is in the blood, the greater the risk of Heart disease.

Cholesterol that is known as LDL is known as what?

LDL stands for "Low-Density Lipoprotein," but those words don't really mean anything to people besides doctors. All you need to know is that LDL Cholesterol is BAD CHOLESTEROL.It's HDL Cholesteral that is GOOD CHOLESTEROL. Remember: H for Healthy, L for LOWER IT. The higher your LDL Cholesterol is, the worse off you are health-wise.
