Best Answer

The basicity of an acid is the number of moles of H+ ions produced per mole of acid.

1. Monobasic acids produce one mole of H+ ions per mole of acid, eg., HCl

2. Dibasic acids produce two moles of H+ ions per mole of acid, eg., H2SO4

3. Tribasic acids produce three moles of H+ ions per mole of acid, eg., H3PO4
