A packaging gas is any gas used to provide a modified atmosphere for a product in storage.
Modified Atmospheric Packaging
Its where the atmosphere in which a product is tored/kept is changed, i.e. oxygen is removed from the air of pre-prepared salads and other gases are added, this makes it MAP
Wrapping paper breathes well in packaging. Air travels through the fibers. Packaging material such as bubble wrap should not be used if the package should breate
packaging preserves fresh food by keeping it air type.
Vacuum packaging uses a vacuum to suck out the air of a bag. This causes the food to store better because the bacteria can not reproduce as well as they could with the air.
SunSilk ThermaShine and ThermaSilk are the same product. The SunSilk line is a modified version of the packaging for the ThermaSilk product.
The FoodSaver V475 is a vacuum packaging system. These systems are designed to preserve foods for long periods of time by removing air from packaging when resealing.
I would suggest contacting a packaging company. I know that corrugated packaging companies employ engineers that will will develop custom corrugated packaging solutions for your product that are ergonomic and streamlined. In short, bigger is not always better and these engineers design packaging that uses less material, yet provides better protection by using air as a cushion.
Reference: Food Packaging, Principles and Practice by Gordon L.Robertson CAP is the enclosure of food in a gas impermeable package inside which the gaseous environment with respect to CO2, O2, N2, water vapor and trace gases has been changed and is selectively controlled to increase shelf life. O2 scavengers and ethylene absorbers with CO2 release agents could be classified as CAP during the early stages of the storage life of packaged product. MAP is the enclosure of food in a package in which the athmosphere inside the package is modified so that its composition is other than that of air. Modification can be achieved by removing air and replacing it with a controlled mixture of gases. Nitrogen is frequently used in MAP to reduce the concentration of other gases in the package.
Because you have to take it out of its packaging or container to eat it.
