Hamster, definetly. I know friends that had a ginnea pig and it wasn't that active and I used to have a hamster that was active 24/7 and some of my friends had a hamster and my sister did too and they were active.
A guinea pig may cost a little more than a hamster.
A Ginnie pig makes SO much more noise than a hamster. Get a hamster they dont make a lot of noise and their so cuddley and cute!

Both pets are nice choices for a 12 year old. I would probably choose a hamster because they are usually more hyper and active but more likely to bite. With a guinea pig, a bit less responsibility and patience is involved making it easier to care for.

The female guinea pig, has a more sturdy and fury coat of fur. It also tends to want sexual needs, eats more and is mostly frightened by most objects. Or. go to a pet shop and ask the head desk, or someone with intelligence, ask them about this question. Preferably bring your guinea pig.
