In the past a manual transmission equipped vehicle would always get better fuel mileage. But on cars built in the last 5 years that is not always true. There are some vehicles where the A/T equipped vehicle gets as good or better fuel mileage than a manual. Especially cars equipped with a CVT automatic transmission.
Agreed, with modern automatics having as many as 9 forward gears and a lock up torque converter that can engauge in low gears the efficiency difference of the past is all but gone.
A manual transmission civic is more fuel efficient than an automatic transmission. That goes for just about any car.
A standard shift vehicle combined with good driving habits can get better fuel mileage than an automatic transmission vehicle.

I would say manual because you can regulate your RPM's to what would be best for your vehicles fuel efficency. In the past a manual transmission equipped vehicle would always get better fuel mileage. A clutch in an automatic transmission will decrease fuel economy. A clutch in a manual transmission will increase fuel efficiency.
The most fuel efficient cars in America are manufactured by General Motors , Chrysler and Ford. The EPA ratings are derived on a formula based on 45% highway driving and 55% city driving. Although motorists can get the best fuel economy in manual transmission models, the estimation was done based on automatic transmission.
The fuel tank of a 1984 Nissan Pulsar is 15.9 gallons. That size is the same no matter if the car is a manual transmission or an automatic transmission.
i think the energy (fuel) is more consumed in automatic shifting of gears whereas the same is done manually.. this could only be the reason..
AnswerThe fuel capacity for this car 12.2 gallons for both the automatic and manual transmissions. The automatic transmission gets 24city-34hwy mpg. The manual transmission gets 27city-37hwy mpg.
A manual transmission will require a driver operated clutch pedal to shift gears, and thus allow for shifting on demand as opposed to waiting for a computer to determine shift points. An automatic transmission uses computer algorithms to determine shift points based upon engine load, speed, and overall fuel economy. More driveline drag exists with an automatic transmission because of more moving parts, and thus an automatic will typically have slightly lower fuel economy than a manual transmission equipped vehicle.
If you mean a standard (manual) transmission, you have two options. You can get a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. I as myself would take the 6-speed manual because it has better fuel economy and it is faster from 0 to 60 and the quarter mile.
