Most of the time, in the mitochondrion. But sometimes in the cytoplasm and other places.
The organelles where energy is released from nutrient molecules are called mitochondria. These organelles are often referred to as the powerhouse of the cell because they produce the majority of the cell's energy currency, known as adenosine triphosphate (ATP), through a process called cellular respiration.

Electron transport chains
ATP can be produced in the cytoplasm under anaerobic conditions but the majority of ATP is produced in the mitochondria during aerobic respiration.
Adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients to generate ATP through aerobic respiration, as well as enzymes and co-factors needed for various metabolic pathways within the mitochondria.
The mitochondria is the organelle that generates most of the energy the cell needs through the process of cellular respiration, producing ATP molecules as energy currency for the cell.
