Cordillera is a region in the northern part of the Philippines. It is rich in culture, tradition and music. Cordillera has its own distinct language, which is commonly called Kankana-ey. The language is rich in native dialect, and the people speak it with pride and dignity. The folksongs are usually sung in monotone, which resembles the chanting of a priest or the reciting of a poem. Sometimes it is sung in duet, and at times in a chorus. A number of modern bands have also been cropping up in recent days, and they are topping the charts. Cordillera has also been famous for its rice terraces. These are rice fields organized in a sloping manner, and they are still being used today. Each field boasts of an advanced irrigation system.
