What is the difference between natural and processed cheese?
Natural cheese is cheese that is presented in the same form as when it was aged. The only thing that will have happened to it is that it may be sliced, shredded or cut into chunks. Processed cheese takes natural cheese and processes it to change the texture and characteristics. Other ingredients are often added, like emulsifiers, whey, and colors. In the U.S., the percentage of natural cheese used is reflected in the name of the product. See Related Links.
