CAT scans and MRI scans are useful for a wide variety of medical investigations; the MRI in particular is very useful for neurological examinations, since it is otherwise very difficult to examine the brain in any detail. CAT scans can be used for all sorts of things, to investigate illness or injury in any part of the body. I had one recently for a kidney stone.

What is the difference between 1.5t mri and 3t mri scan?
3T MRI scans are scans done using twice the magnetic field strength. This is a physical difference. The stronger magnet allows us to see more information in the same time. So a 3T scan is simply twice as good, at least 4 times as fast and also delivers more radiofrequency RF energy during the scan. This means it sometimes feels warm inside the scanner. But to most patients this is a unimportant difference. The true difference is the increased diagnostic capability of 3T MRI. For instance breast lesions are seen 100% at 3T but only 90% at 1.5T. In the case of MS we usually see 37% more lesions in the same patient with the same scans. However - we can sometimes see up to 300% more lesions. In my experience 3T MRI is superior to 1.5T MRI in most cases. We us 1.5T OPEN BORE MRI for our larger patients and claustrophobic patients but in most patients we find that 3T is superior to 1.5T. We offer both to our patients and are one of the few facilities in the world that allows the patient to choose.

My son's MRI impression reads -MRI scans features s/o periventricular leukomalacia. The Neurologist told me it is a scar of brain. I want more explanation on this regard. While my son was under going treatment for ALL, he had high fever due to infection. One night he had convulsion followed by coma. The doctors told me he had no chance of survival since he had brain remarriage .It was their fault because instead of giving him platelates prescribed by the relived doctor, the reliver doctor had given him plasma. CTscan could not be done at that time because my son had allergic to a tranqualiser.He was two yrs old. Since he is having petit mal now at the age of 15,we consulted a Neurologist who advised for MRI and EEG.

i just had one for the first time, it wasnt bad at all. they put a headset on you and you listen to any radio station you want. you can still hear the mri noises but trust me, its not bad at all. i almost fell asleep _______________________________ Sorry; most MRI systems sound like a metal garbage can full of rocks, rolling down a hill. They're pretty noisy. They should provide you with foam ear plugs, but you might want to get a set of your own (in the USA, most drug stores sell them) just so that you'll have some. Unfortunately, you cannot wear headphones for an MRI; the metallic elements in the headphones would be destroyed, and the induced current within the circuitry could cause heat that could injure you. (The first person to answer, above, must not have been getting an MRI of the head.) Modern systems are less noisy than the older ones, but even the best aren't quiet.

Patients who can do a web search for the nearest Espree scanner will find that the scanner accept patients up to 550 pounds. The bore opening is 30 inches which is the widest in the world and the bore is alsoonly about 39 inches in depth which makes it the shortest in the world. For everyone being scanner a part of your body will be outside the scanner. The true disadvantage if any is that if you have a pacemaker or non compatible metal implant you cannot have a scan. Patients should always ask if implanting a metal device is safe and will limit their later options. I have a friend who had a vagus nerve stimulator implanted for seizures but he did not have a complete seizure workup at the time. His MRIs were lousy. He can now never have an MRI and they will never be able to see if he has subtle findings such as hippocampal atrophy or scelrosis or heterotopic grey matter. Our 1.5T OPEN BORE MRI scanner allows everyone to have a comfortable MRI study up to 550 lbs.
