One consequence of the incumbency advantage is the fact that it reduces majoritarian democracy. Because there is a 90 percent or greater chance of incumbent re-election in congress, politicians that hold an office may feel secure enough to partially or wholly disregard the will of the majority and public opinion creating "rogue politicians."

The main consequence of the incumbency advantage is the near elimination of consequences for career politicians. They can just be bought off at some point since they are secure in their job.
