The mitochondria would stop releasing the energy in food and the cells would stop running. So basically it is just like the less active the cell is, the less energy it has, and the more mitochondria it needs.

Mitochondria is know as powerhouse of the cell. All the energy that we produce inside the cell is because of the mitochondria organelle. It follows oxidation of glucose in three steps to harness the energy into useable form from the food that we eat.

The three steps are

1) Glycolysis

2) Krebs Cycle and

3)Phosphorylation

Death. The mitochondria produce ATP (usually by breaking down glucose, or more accurately pyruvate), which is the form energy must be in for a cell to use that energy to do anything.
