bow and arrow. Before horses arrived in North America the natives had few options when it came to hunting Bison and they had to work very hard at stalking and killing their prey. By working as a group they would gradually drive a herd towards a precipice and then stampede it over the edge by lighting fires. It was possible for them to kill several hundred bison at a time by using this method. Another method was to drive the buffalo into a canyon, again by using fire, and then pick them off with spears or bows and arrows. As the buffalo provided the Indians with just about everything they needed for food and shelter both these methods were good for preparing the tribe for winter or for migrating to new hunting grounds.
