The reason that America went to war was the issue of British warships stopping American merchant ships and impounding cargo and impressing sailors to help fight Napoleon. At the signing of the treaty of Ghent the British did not agree to stop the practice but since the 20 year war was over they stopped anyway. Also, Congress thought that we would just march into Canada and claim it for America...obviously that failed! LOL
