Fuel pressure as measured off the Schrader valve on the fuel rail should be at least 20 to 30 PSI for the 2.3 L.
The fuel pressure for a 1990 D 21 pickup is dependent upon the size of the engine. In general, the fuel pressure should be approximately 20 pounds per square inch.
If it helps the fuel pressure at the fuel rail should be 3.3-3.7 bar with the engine idling. The holding pressure after 20-30 minutes should be, system pressure - 0.5 bar.

The 5.7 liter Chevrolet engine fuel pressure should be a team PSI. A range of 16 PSI to 20 PSI is acceptable.

Check your fuel pressure, it should be around 48 psi at the fuel rail. It sounds like your fuel pump is overheating.
