What is opposing an enemy or oppressor by any means other than violence?

There are many ways to demonstrate one's opposition to certain people or causes without the use of violence.

Gandhi famously advocated peaceful means when exercising such opposition in the struggle to attain Indian Independence in the early twentieth Century, one example of this the Salt March of 1930. Gandhi proved that peaceful means of opposition work, even against the most powerful of adversaries such as The British Empire.

In modern times, Democratic movements such as that in Burma, led by Aung San Suu Kyi, despite not necessarily meeting total success, prove further that violence is not the only medium to express opposition to an oppressive force.

Social Networking has gone a long way, in recent times, to enhance people's ability to oppose certain entities.

Slightly further afield, George Orwell wrote in his famous dystopian novel 1984 that one can oppose one's oppressor simply by refusing, internally, to accept the dictates said oppressor attempts to enforce whilst maintaining the external status of subservience.

Recently (early 1060s), in America, Martin Luther King Jr. led a successful non-violent campaign, resulting in the national repudiation of racial segregation.
