From MedicineNet.com:
" Paget's disease is a chronic bone condition characterized by disorder of the normal bone remodeling process. Normal bone has a synchronized relationship of mechanisms that act to lay down new bone and take up old bone. This relationship (referred to as remodeling) is essential for maintaining the normal calcium levels in our blood. In bone affected by Paget's disease, the bone remodeling is disturbed and not synchronized. As a result, the bone that is formed is abnormal, enlarged, not as dense, brittle, and prone to breakage (fracture).
Paget's disease affects older bone of adults. It's estimated that 1% of adults in the U.S. have Paget's disease. There is an extremely rare form of Paget's disease in children, referred to as juvenile Paget's disease. Paget's disease is also known as osteitis deformans."

Communicable means spreadbale. I.e. bacteria and viurses are 'Infectious Diseases' and can therefore spread between people. Non 'spreadble' diseases are things like cancer, Asthma, Pagets disease, ulcerative colitis.. the list is practically endless. False
Paget's disease is a chronic bone condition. In bone affected by Paget's disease, the bone remodeling is disturbed and not made right. In result the bone is formed abnormal. Pagets dieses happens to adults because their bones are older. This happens to about 1 % of adults. Scientist have not found out what causes pagets dieses. The symprtoms are arthritis Paget's disease commonly causes no symptoms. But some people have abnormally large bones which pinch their nerves causing tingling and numbness. The way pagets is treated is with a pain reliving medicine.
Yes I had Page't disease of the nipple and had surgery in April 2009. My breast surgeon did a punch biopsy and biopsies in a few suspicious lumps. The other lumps were o.k. but I had been misdiagnosed 18 months earlier by another breast surgeon when I first suspected it was Paget's disease. I had a nipple reconstruction at the same time as my surgery. It is 17 months now since surgery and I am still in significant pain around my ribs, and my breast. My surgery was followed by 35 treatments of radiotherapy. Cheers, Liz
