Knee Pain can be caused by a number of things. It depends whether the pain came on gradually or suddenly.

If it came on gradually, it could be

2) Chondromalacia Patella - thinning of the cartilage on the back of the kneecap

3) Osgood Schlatters - most common in teenagers

4) Patellar Tendonitis - inflammation of the tendon below the kneecap

5) Arthritis - wear and tear of the cartilage and bone

6) Bursitis - inflammation of one of the fluid filled sacs around the knee

if it came on suddenly it could be

1) Knee Sprain - overstretching on one of the knee ligaments

2) Meniscus Tear - tear in the cartilage lining the knee joint
