It is the double wall of a cell membrane that regulates material passage.

The cell membrane is called the phospholipid bilayer because the phospholipids form two distinct layers. In each layer, the phospholipid molecules lie with the hydrophilic "heads" at the membrane surface and the hydrophobic "tails" on the inside, in association with cholesterol and small quantities of other lipids.

An example of a phospholipid bilayer is the cell surface membrane of an animal or plant cell. It is made up lipids with a hydrophilic phosphate head and two hydrocarbon fatty acid tails. It also contains glycolipids and glycoproteins which act as receptors. There are also channel proteins for the transport of ions to the inside or outside of cells. There are the pumps which need energy to operate (by active transport).

the twin layer of phospholipids forms most of the cell membrane and is used to prevent substances (water soluble of fat soluble, i forgot) from entering the cell by diffusion

What is another name for the phospholipid bilayer?

It depends on which lipid bilayer you're talking about. There is the phospholipid bilayer that surrounds eukaryotic cells, cholesterol phospholipid bilayers, protein lipid bilayers, phase transition lipid bilayer, lipid bilayer membrane...

What is the plasma membrane aka phospholipid bilayer?

The plasma membrane is the limiting membrane of a cell. It is called Phospholipid Bilayer because it consists of proteins and lipids.

What is the basic structure of the plasma membrane?

The framework of the cell membrane is formed by the lipid bilayer. The lipid bilayer is composed of two layers of fat cells organized in two sheets. This is what provides the barrier that makes the boundaries of the cell.

Is a phospholipid found in a plasma membrane?

Yes, that is why one of the membrane's names is, phospholipid bilayer.

The double layer of phospholipids is called a what?

The double layer of phospholipids is called the phospholipid bilayer. It forms the basis of every membrane, both the plasma membrane and all internal membranes. The idea that the bilayer has protein molecules embedded in it is the essence of the fluid mosaic model of the cell membrane.

Is there a phospholipid bilayer membrane surrounding the nucleus?

A double phospholipid bilayer surrounds the nucleus.
