Professions are skills that the player can learn and level to either gather materials or craft items. They are divided into Primary and Secondary Professions.
Primary: Can only have two Primary Professions per character
- Leatherworking - Craft leather/mail armor and armor kits
- Blacksmithing - Crafts mail/plate armor and a few other things
- Tailoring - crafts cloth armor and spell-thread
- Jewelcrafting - crafts and cuts gems and rings
- Alchemy - makes potions and flasks
- Inscription - makes glyphs and a few off hand items
- Skinning - allows skinning of animals for leather and hide
- Mining - mine ore nodes and creates bars
- Herbalism - picks flowers
Secondary: Can have all of the secondary professions
- First Aid - create bandages and minor poison removal
- Cooking - Create food to eat
- Fishing - Catch fish to use in cooking
- Runeforging - Technically a secondary skill, but only available to Death Knights. It carves runes into their weapons to make them more powerful.

Every profession is good on WoW. Just ask around which profession is in more demand. It varies from population from server to server. Some people are enchanters and tailors. They use tailoring to make BoE items for people as well as the spellthread for their pants. And enchanting, you can personally enchant your things without having to buy mats and give tips out. And everyone will ALWAYS need enchanters and jewelcrafters. So it's basically your choice on how you want to use it and what you want to expect out of the profession.
