What is a Mormon and can they watch R rated movies?
A "Mormon" is a general term used to refer to members of the LDS
Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). The term
"Mormon" comes from the LDS use of the "Book of Mormon" an ancient
record translated from Golden Plates found hidden by the first
latter day prophet Joseph Smith.
Regarding Rated "R" Movies: Members of the LDS Church (Mormons)
are asked to follow a relatively high moral and ethical standard,
this includes avoiding things like drinking and smoking, having sex
outside of marriage and any other things and activites which have a
detrimental effect on the Body. The idea is that the body is a
temple and should be kept clean. Watching movies that include
violent themes and sex, listening to music with violent themes or
promoting promescuity can have a strong influence on the mind and
serve to turn ones attention from the true purpose of life upon
this earth, which is service to our Heavenly Father through his Son
Jesus Christ.
In general we are meant to keep out houses clean, this includes
our minds and bodies. this leads us to avoid corrupting
influences.
