First click on layer with pixels you want to warp (layer can not be background layer, must be regular layer), in Photoshop CS5 and newer go to Edit > Puppet Warp or Edit > Transform > Warp.
The batten and Heddle are the two tools that are used to separate warp and weft. Both the tools work together to weave the cloth.
WIth Type tool active and off course layer with text, look at options bar. Options bar is below menus. On right side of options bar and screen you will see three small icons: warp, cancel and confirm. Press warp (first icon) and choose warp mode.
I've found that the easiest way to make yourself thinner in photoshop is to use the the forward warp tool. Select the filter pulldown menu, then liquify, then the forward warp tool which is on the top left hand side of the tool bar. You have to play around with the brush sizes and it takes a bit to get it down but it works and it's a quick fix.

Warping is a type of distortion that can be used to change the structure of the picture. You can move the pixels in the picture. Go to Filter, Distort, then Warp to use this tool.
A hand puppet is like a puppet but you move it with your hand.
