What do Navajo Indians grow and hunt?

Since you ask what do they grow and hunt...today, some Navajo have vegetable gardens and some are farmers and they grow corn, wheat, soybeans and other crops and raise sheep and goats. Some still hunt sheep, pronghorn antelopes, deer and elk. Some even go on safari in Africa and hunt elephants but most prefer to buy their food at the grocery store. In older times people grew corn, beans, squash, peaches, chillies, melons, cotton, turkeys, onions and raised sheep and goats. They hunted rabbits, prairie dogs, deer, antelope, elk, buffalo very occasionally since they mainly weren't in their area. They gathered pinon pine nuts, sumac berries, wild greens and seeds and other berries, yucca fruit and cactus fruit. They did not fish or hunt bear or most birds as they were taboo.

Ingredients1 1/2 pound poultry, or meat1/2 cup cashews, almonds, or mixture1/2 each inch ginger, fresh, chopped1 each garlic clove, chopped2 each green chillies (optional)1/2 teaspoon saffron2 tablespoon warm milk1 tablespoon ghee2 tablespoon sunflower OR corn oil1 each onion, chopped3 oz yoghurt3 oz cream1/2 cup coriander, fresh, chopped1 salt1 lemon juice (optional)SPICES2 each whole cardamoms3 each whole cloves1 each inch cassia bark1 teaspoon coriander seeds1 teaspoon cummin seedsCut the meat into 1 inch cubes (the poultry on or off the bone, to taste).Blend the nuts, ginger, garlic and chilles into a course paste with 1/4 pint of water. Soak the saffron in warm milk for 10 minutes.Heat the ghee and oil together, then fry the spices then onion until golden. Add the nut paste and yoghurt, and cook for 10 minutes or so. Add the meat, mixing in well. Simmer for about 1 hour or until the meat is tender. Add water bit by bit if needed.About 10 minutes before serving, squeeze the saffron strands in their bowl to get the most colour out of them then add in, with the milk. Add the cream, fresh coriander and salt to taste. Garnish with lemon juice if liked.Notes:Coriander: You may know it as cilantro or Chinese parsleyCassia bark: Similar to cinnamon but with a sweet musky fragrance. When frying the spices use a gentle heat as they are easily burnt! True kormas are spicy, not hot, and a Moghul creation. Their special feature is a creamy sauce with nut and safron. They can be made with chicken, duck, lamb, beef or mutton and should be served with plain or pullao rice.
