In order to become a nurse you must meet the education requirements set by the nursing profession. A university degree in social sciences may help you become a nurse in Canada as university preparation is required for entry to practice. But you will still need to complete nursing theory courses in order to obtain the required nursing competencies necessary to write and pass the Canadian Registered Nurse exam. You will also need nursing clinical experience. Canada has a competency based exam for entry to the profession. The US also has an exam (NCLEX) but it is not based on competencies. University preparation is not required in the US for entry to the nursing profession.
