In amphibians:
It is a disease that amphibians can catch. It is caused by overcrowding, fecal-contaminated water, spoiled food, poor sanitation, trauma to the skin, exposure to harmful pesticides and chemicals and other poor husbandry conditions. It causes hemorrhages of the leg in amphibians (the reason why it is named 'Red Leg Disease'), usually in the upper thigh. If animals appear to have Red Leg Disease, symptoms are:
Clear/Quick loss of appetite, appear weak/lethargic, and become bloated. If the animal has all/most of these symptoms, separate it from others and monitored with care. Supportive care, like an incubator, is recommended. Other animals that have been in contact with the affected animal may be given antibiotics as a preventative measure.
In humans: When you get bloody privates.
A cricket can lose a leg from an accident, such as escaping from a predator. They can also lose a leg from disease.
