The Epiphany is a Christian holiday celebrated at the end of the Christmas season, on January 6th. It celebrates the Magi seeing the baby Jesus after travelling to meet him.

Catholic Answer

The Epiphany celebrates three separate events in Christ's life:

1) The coming of the Magi to the manager

2) Our Blessed Lord's Baptism by John the Baptist in the Jordon River.

3) Our Blessed Lord's first miracle at Cana when He transformed six huge jugs of water into wine.

from Modern Catholic Dictionary by John A. Hardon, S.J. Doubleday & Co., Inc. Garden City, NY 1980

Epiphany. The feast commemorating Christ's manifestation to the Gentiles in the person of the Magi, as well as his baptism and first miracle at Cana. It began in the East in the third century and soon spread to the West, where it is identified with the visit of the Magi. In some countries it is know as Twelfth Night (after Christmas) and is the occasion for special celebrations. For centuries the Epiphany has been a holy day of obligation in many places. (Etym. Greek epiphaneia, appearance, manifestation.

The celebration of Epiphany, which is actually three feasts in one: the manifestation of Christ to the Magi, Our Blessed Lord's Baptism in the Jordon, and the first miracle at Cana was first celebrated in the East in the third century but soon spread to the whole Church, and for a time rivaled Christmas in importance (it is celebrated on the twelfth Night of Christmas). It has been a holy day of Obligation for many centuries.
