What is republicanism?
April 07, 2018 2:19AM
Republicanism is the political movement to establish a republic, which is a state that has no constitutionally hereditary ruler. A republic is not necessarily a liberal democracy like the United States. It may be a brutally conservative dictatorship such as Cuba, China or North Korea.
The following remarks are a romantic description of representative democracy, and have nothing to do with the question. A republic is a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them. It's a type of government system which stresses liberty and rights. Overall, the direct message is the citizens control the government.
