To me, and this is not a complete list, but being a good Australian citizen means working hard, obeying the rule of law, participating in the political process, respecting the rights and opinions of others and looking out for your mates. I don't believe that any of these contradict what is also required to be a good Muslim.
That being the case, I can't see why a person cannot be both a good Muslim and a good Australian citizen. Islam is not my religion, but as a good Australian citizen, I must (and I do) respect and support the right of Muslims to practice their religion... and I welcome them as fellow Australian citizens.
Yes all you have to do is become an American citizen. <><><><> Citizenship is not required. My stepson is a British subject, and a US Marine. However, the Australian would need to become a Resident Alien- someone that is admitted to the US as a permanent resident (emigrant).

If by Australian, you mean become an Australian citizen it is not a hard process. You have to have 2 years of residence in the country.
Once you become a Australian citizen then alone will you be allowed to vote. If you have a P.R. Permienent Residence will not allow you to vote , as you do not have an Australian passport yet.
An Australian citizen is either someone who was born in Australia and lives here, or someone who has become a naturalised Australian, choosing to become an Australian citizen through a series of programmes and trainings. Australian citizens have the right to vote in federal, state and local elections. If an Australian citizen leaves the country and takes up citizenship in another country, he/she may choose to revoke his Australian citizenship. However, many may choose to retain their Australian citizenship as well as taking on citizenship in another country. Also, an Australian citizen can live and work in another country without taking up citizenship, and thereby remaining an Australian citizen whether or not he/she lives in his/her country of birth.
The Alien Acts increased the time that was required for an immigrant to become an American citizen from five to fourteen years

If you are a non-citizen moving to Australia, you must go through an application process to become a citizen. Sometimes, the application is rejected.
