The final stitch is often called the lock stitch, and can be made by using the reverse button on the sewing machine. After you come to the end of your work, you do several stitches in reverse over the completed work to lock in the seam.
I believe the answer you're looking for is: the Purlstitch. The purl stitch, when looking at the completed piece of knitted fabric, is actually the reverse side of the knit stitch, and is usually considered it's "companion."
Reverse sewing at the beginning or end of a stitch secures the seam, and is a good way to ensure that your stitches won't unravel.
in most there is a small lever on the head. This changes the twist .
shift to nutral, then move lever to reverse
when you are ending a run of sewing in a straight stitch you use the reverse to "lock" the sewing, so the thread will not pull out as easy, and it is less bulky than hand knotting it. you just hit the reverse for about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch at the end of your seam and maybe do it a couple of times depending on stress of the seam is going to be under in the finish garment.
Disconnect the chain from the lever, and using a pair of pliers turn the nut on the lever counter clockwise. These threads are reverse from the norm.

On a 660cc Yamaha Raptor, the reverse knob is located on the front right fender. It' just about an arms length away when sitting on the fourwheeler. it can be engaged simply by pulling in the clutch lever and turning the knob to the right. A 350cc raptor, however, the reverse can be found on the right side of the engine, almost underneath the gas tank. It is a small lever that must by pulled up and back when the clutch lever is pulled in, to take it out of reverse, pull in the clutch, push the lever up and foward.
There should be a button on the left brake lever that needs to be pushed in, then depress that lever, then shift down and it should then be in reverse. My 1998 trx300 is this way. Hope this is helpful.
