Sushi is the general term for seafood or other foods and rice served in a seaweed wrapper. Sushi consists of cooked vinegared rice (shari) combined with other ingredients (neta). THe wrapper is not really a seaweed but a manufactured item. The black wrappers are called nori. Nori is a type of algae gathered and processed into thin sheets, Describing sushi as raw fish and rice in seaweed is like describing steak and mushrooms as dead partly incinerated cow covered with fungus.
