The abbreviation, 'r.m.s.', represents 'root mean square', which is a way in which a.c. current (and voltage) is measured so that it may be compared with a d.c. current that does the same amount of work.
RMS stands for root-mean-square.
Voltage and current, in alternating current (a.c.) systems, vary continuously from zero to positive and negative peak values. The average voltage and current of an a.c. system is zero, so it begs one to determine an appropriate measure of these units in a real system. The voltage and current of an a.c. system are measured in rms, because the rms values of these units will deliver an equal electrical power to that of a direct current (d.c.) system operating at the same amplitudes of voltage and current.
Mathematically, an rms value for a continuous function f(t) defined over an interval of time, T(1) and T(2), is defined by
f(rms) = square-root[1 / (T(2) - T(2)) x integral[f(t)]^2(dt) over the interval T(1) to T(2)].

The RMS current for an 8.0 µF capacitor attached to a 120 V rms 60 Hz source is 39,798 amperes.
When you say holdhold supply of 230volts, you are referring to the RMS value, not the peak value.

Its 0.7 times peak-0 voltage, 106 mv RMS.
rms value is measured using voltmeter with the use of heat sensing elements.

RMS
RMS means root mean square and watts means power. What a difference! Scroll down to related links and look for a neat pressure converter at"Root Mean Square" und knowlege about "Watt" Watts root mean square is the effective value of alternating current electrical power compared to direct current power. Scroll down to related links and look for "Why there is no such thing as 'RMS watts' or 'watts RMS' and never has been". RMS watts is meaningless, but we use that term as "an extreme shorthand" for power in watts calculated from measuring the RMS voltage.
rms is the best because 1 RMS = 100 PMPO
The RMS on Titanic stood for "Royal Mail Ship".
There is no proper formula to convert RMS to PMPO, but based on various observations it has been found out that 12W to 16W PMPO = 1W RMS.

RMS watts is not a real measurement. The correct measurement is "average power", which is measured in "watts". It is dervied from RMS voltage, but that doesn't make it "RMS watts". "RMS watts" would be 22% higher than the correct "average watts".
There is such a thing as "RMS power", but it's not useful for anything, so don't use the term. No one measures the RMS of the power waveform. What they do is measure the RMS of a voltage waveform, and then use that to derive the averagepower. The correct term is "average power", not "RMS power". You could measure the RMS of the power waveform instead of the average, but your measurement would be 1.2 times too high.
The RMS Olympic was indeed a real ship. It was the sister ship to the RMS Titanic. It was retired in 1935.
rms. dat means Vp-p will be 325V.
