A difference is that in Libya there were two groups fighting for control of ALL of one country. This is a true civil war. In what's called the American Civil War, the Rebels did not want to take over the entire country; what they wanted was for the part of the country where they lived to become a new country, separate from the US. This is more of a rebellion than a true civil war.
Similarities are harder to find. From what I understand most Libyans supported the Rebels and were eager to see the old regime defeated. In the US "Civil War", at least at first, there was a lot of popular support for establishing the new southern Confederate States of America in those states which rebelled, and even some in the states which remained loyal to the US. Many people thought if the Rebels wanted out, let them go, its not worth a war to make them stay.
Another similarity might be that the existing governments had the military and all the weapons. The Rebels had a difficult time finding arms equal to those of the government forces.
And, in both cases the Rebels hoped for active military assistance from other nations, which the Libyan Rebels received, but the Confederate Rebels did not.
Only that there was a human-rights element in the later part of the American Civil War, which ended with the abolition of slavery in the USA. The Libyan Civil War was a United Nations backed campaign to oust a dictator guilty of transgressing human rights.
The Civil War was not between Canada and America. It was between the northern and southern US states.
It was between the Confederate States of America and the United States of America.
The Civil War was fought between the northern and southern states of America. It was a war between Americans themselves because America was a divided country.
There is none. Just two different descriptions of the same thing.
a lot of important things happened in the year 2011 like the tsunami that happened in Japan ,the nuclear power plant in japan , the no fly zone over Libya, and the civil war between libya and the united states, bin laden was killed
The American Civil War took place between the Confederate States of America and the United States of America from 1861 and 1865.
The civil war was different because in the civil war it was northern America fighting southern America. in other wars it was all of America fighting a different country. They were fighting because the South (or the Confederates) wanted to keep slavery in the US. The North ( or the union) was fighting to abolish slavery in the US. Of course, the North won.
Several different militant groups fighting for power over one region leads to the civil unrest. When the general public is separated through support of these different groups, with no mediating medium in place to control the force, there is a high probability for a civil war.
No. The Revolutionary War was 1775-1783 between the to be United States and the British. The Civil war was between the North and South of America. America wanted freedom from the British in the revolutionary war whereas the South wanted freedom form the North of America in the Civil war.
NO. The US is relatively disinterested in Libya's current civil war and will likely ignore the region. Besides the US intervention in Libya in 2011 has soured many Americans on the idea of intervening in Libya another time.
The Union.
