psychiatry is the treatment of the mind and psychology is the study of it.

A psychiatrist is a medical physician who has choosen this as a speciality, the are allowed to prescribe medication.

A psychologist, however is not allowed 2 do this as psychologists are not medical physicians.

A psychiatrist is a theripist that has completed a medical degree and is able to perscibe medication to their patients. A psychologist has not completed a medical degree and cannot perscribe their patients medication though they can council them. A psychologist makes slightly less money but goes through significantly less schooling then a psychiatrist.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor, with extensive training in the treatment of mental disorders caused by a physical illness. A psychologist is not a medical doctor, and cannot prescribe medications, but is trained to treat emotional disorders.

A neurologist looks at how neurons interact within the brain and a psychiatrist attempts to understand why some is depressed, for example.
