In MS Word, Save As is used to change the file name, format & location.
'Save' & 'Save As' perform same job that is to save a document. However, the way they achieve this is slightly different. Save function saves the document using same file name, format and location. However, Save As function opens a dialogue box in which the user can change the name of document, format & location.
Note: Save function also opens a dialog box when you try to save a new document.
You can open a MS Works document with MS Word.
MS Word can save as HTML, but cannot do raw HTML code.
Merge it in MS Word and save it. or Combine it using MS Paint.

The problem you are having is not of conversion. Rather, it is of association. Saving a file as .doc in Wordpad is the same as saving it as .doc in MS Word. The problem is that your computer is set to open .doc files with MS Word rather than Wordpad. This is common, and I believe MS Word sets this association by itself when installed. Try right-clicking a .doc file and choosing the Open with... option. In the dialog that appears, choose Wordpad and tick the box that says "Always open with this application"
