What is semmerwater?

It's a lake in the Yorkshire Dales, there is a poem and legand attached to it about a wayfarer who was refused hospitality there except by a poor shepherd, and in return the villages was cursed with inundation by the lake, all except for the shepherds hut which was apparently saved.
