The Perth mint is obviously found in Perth, Western Australia. It was involved in the Perth Mint Swindle where millions of Australian Dollars worth of gold was stolen. Ray, Peter and Brian Mickelberg (Perth brothers) were accused of stealling this gold. They were gaoled (jailed) for many years, later it was uncovered the they did not commit the crime at which time they were released from gaol (jail) and they recieved a huge compensation of money for the time that they spent in gaol.

Information about the Perth Mint

The Perth Mint was the third branch of Britain's Royal Mint to be established in Australia. It was founded in 1899. Essentially, it was established as a result of the goldrush that began during the 1890s in the Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie areas. Sir John Forrest, the first Premier of Western Australia, had a great deal of influence in the founding of the Mint.

Although the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra is Australia's national Mint, the Perth Mint (the proper name of which is the Today Gold Corporation), is the only Mint in the west. It passed from British ownership into the hands of the Western Australian government in 1970.
