St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was born in a privileged Anglican family, she had one sister, her mother died when she was three. Later in life she married William Seton, by whom she had five children. William was from a successful merchant family, but died early from tuberculosis. St. Elizabeth converted to the Catholic Church and went on to found one of the more successful Orders of Catholic Sisters in the United States, founded to give poor children religious education. Her Order was modeled on the Daughters of Charity in France.
