Who planted the first flag in the south pole?

Answer OneThe Indian flag was raised at the North Pole on April 8th 2008 by an Indian Navy expedition, comprising of Commander Satyabrata Dam, Lt Avinash Khajuria, Surgeon Lt Ajay Sharma, MCERA 1 Raj Kumar, POMA Rakesh Kumar, POMA Vikas Kumar, LME R Pandey, SEA 1 B Singh, Sea 1 Manoj Vats, MA 1 Sonam Tamchos. (ANI).Answer TwoThe Indian national flag was raised for the first time at the North Pole on April 23 1985 by Dr. Jagannathan Srinivasaraghavan. (Dr. Van). He was given the flag by the Indian Consulate in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Please visit http://www.stargate4173.com/Polar/PolarJournals/images/pole010.HTML for a photograph of all expedition members and you can see the flag. Dr. Van is a psychiatrist and had visited Antarctica in January 1985 and had visited all continents by then. He has visited all but six countries of the 194 countries by now. Dr. Van has presented about his travels to Indian associations in US and also in India. His feat was reported in India Tribune, India Reporter among other newspapers.Explanation of Answer OneYes, by flying to the North Pole, which in the strictest sense of attaining a pole, does not count. The Indian Navy expedition did it over the ice on foot. That is why I did not give Dr Srinivasaraghavans acheivement in the above answer, and why the Indian Navy expedition is in the record books as the first Indians to raise the Indian Flag at the North Pole.Answerer Two OpinionIf the question is who achieved the north pole on foot, I would agree and I am not trying to minimise the achievement of the Indian Navy team. However, if the question is who planted the Indian flag for the first time at the North Pole, the answer has to be Dr. Srinivasaraghavan's achievement in 1985. If the question is rephrased as to who is the first person of Indian origin to reach the North Pole, the answer may be Bezal Jesudason (1941-1995). Bezal lived in Resolute Bay on Cornwallis island of Canada and along with his wife Terry ran a company making all logistic arrangements to go the North Pole. Bezal started the company in 1979 and might have gone to the north pole by 1975 or 1976. He became a Canadian citizen in 1973.By March 2012, Dr. Jagannathan Srinivasaraghavan (Dr. Van) has visited all 195 countries including the newest country South Sudan and Libya was his last to visit. He also visited South Pole on December 13-16 2011 for the Centenary celebration of Amundsen reaching the South Pole on December 14 1911. Of the 321 places listed as countries on the Travelers Century Club (www.travelerscenturyclub.org) Dr. Van visited his 300th by visiting Robinson Crusoe Island belonging to Chile in the Pacific in March 2012.
