All states of matter:solids, liquids and gases. But not through vacuum.
sound energy can be transmitted from gases, plasma andliquids and as longitudinal waves, also called a compression waves. it requires a medium to propagate. through solids it can be transmitted as both longitudnal waves and transverse waves
Sound waves are transmitted in this manner.
SOUND
When sound hits a surface, it is either transmitted through the material or reflected back out, similar as light is. When sound is transmitted through matter, it is diffused (or spread out) by said matter; and also a small portion of the sound is converted to energy (such as heat). This is based on my personal understanding, it may not be 100% accurate but I you out.
by vibration of particles and fluids.

Sound is caused by vibrations, and (at least experimentally) energy could be derived from the variance in transmitted vibrations.

Heat insulation reduces the rate of heat flow. Sound insulation reduces the amplitude of the sound energy transmitted through a cavity.
Kinetic energy is transmitted by sound waves in air.
Atoms transfer sound energy through vibrations. If there are no atoms, such as in a vacuum, sounds cannot be transmitted.
Sound is mechanical energy. It's a vibration or oscillation, and it is transmitted as a wave of pressure and displacement. Like all mechanical waves, sound requires a medium through which to travel, and the source transfers mechanical energy into the medium. Solids and fluids (liquids or gasses) serve as mediums for the transmission of sound waves.

the answer is sound energy because you have a vibrations in your ear to hear
