Stub zones are copies of a zone that contain only the resource records that are
necessary to identify the authoritative DNS server for that zone. A stub zone
contains a subset of zone data consisting of a SOA, NS, and A record, also
known as a glue record. A stub zone is like a bookmark that simply points to
the DNS server that is authoritative for that zone.
Stub zones can be used where root hints point to an internal DNS server rather
than to the root servers on the internet. For security purposes, the DNS server is
designed only to resolve certain zones.
