It is an ancient city and ruins located on the outskirts of Mexico City. Commonly mistaken for being built by the Aztecs, it rose some 1000 years before, and abandoned at least 150 years before Aztecs arrived to the Mexico City valley in 1325.
Teotihuacan was named by the Aztecs, meaning "City of the Gods". The real name of the civilization that built such monumental city is unknown, and it is believed it was destroyed by Olmec raids during the 7th to 10th century, A.D.
